How Life connects us, even when we’re away from home. My day exploring Geneva was a photographic feast and so much was going on, walking through the vielle ville and taking trams to outlying districts, including an encounter with a local who saw us studying a map and immediately offered help and gave a recommendation for lunch. On returning later to the lakeside park I wandered off alone to get a photo of a nearby feature we’d passed by much earlier. I’d only walked about thirty yards when I was stopped by a woman who asked me, in French, if I’d take her photo on her phone. In my schoolboy French I agreed and did a small selection of photos for her. She then engaged in more detailed conversation, so I explained my French was limited and she reverted to English, which is a fairly common lingua franca in a country with four national languages. She then opened up with a heartfelt account of her spirituality and religious background, wanting to share her love of God which I found deeply moving considering the circumstances. While she was following her Way, she said she recognised that others had equally valid paths of their own to follow. I inferred from this ‘chance’ meeting that she had somehow intuited that I was approachable, not only to do the photography (I was carrying a camera after all) but also as someone she could open up to, to find connection. Gave her a cwtch and we went our separate ways.
