Learning when to talk and when to listen.

I joined the walking group again today in the shadow of Twmbarlwm, the iron age burial mound and hill fort once occupied by the Silures. These ancestors lived here before the Romans came, and after they left a couple of hundred years later – Yma o Hyd. When I treat these walks as opportunities for fresh insight, pilgrimage rather than hike, Life delivers in spades.

Two conversations in particular sparked my interest, one where a fellow walker explained his spiritual approach, following a path but remaining open to other equally valid pathways. The other came over coffee, where another walker described experience as a student at art college. He didn’t relate to his fellow students and decided he must be on the wrong course, but then met two other students following a music discipline and he immediately got on with them, ‘his people’ he said. No surprise, he changed course (what a wonderful metaphor).

How educational a walk in the woods can be.
