Healing

I prefer the term Healing to spiritual healing, which I associate with religion; I prefer a broader understanding of it, to embrace energy healing, reiki, shamanic healing, chi, prana and yes, evangelical healing – it’s the subtle life force energy, like an electromagnetic flow of energy through the body. Healing is a practice to help restore balance and well-being to all levels of mind, body and spirit by channelling the subtle energy. Like so many other subjects in life, my attitude towards, and opinion of, Healing was formed by information ‘out there’ rather than experience. My internalised view from childhood was created by the media, teachers, church, authority figures in my life and the books I read, admittedly a small subset of what was available. This wasn’t necessarily a bad thing as I felt it kept me safe in what I perceived as an uncertain world. But much of this was ‘borrowed’ experience, the experiences of others, which was limited by the culture into which I was born. And so the years passed and I, unquestioningly, went along with it. When, during the channelling course, I was introduced to Healing, I first had to overcome my accumulated half a lifetime of prejudices and disbelief to make any progress. I later became a volunteer at a Healer centre under the umbrella of the National Federation of Spiritual Healers from 2004, eventually applying for accreditation as a Healer member in 2008, which I still maintain. In addition, I was making a living as a freelance photographer in the construction industry - not renowned for its sensitivity to finer feelings; finding a balance between the two was at times, well, interesting. This was accompanied by an increasing sense of being ‘neurodivergent’, a ‘stranger in a strange land’, in this place but not of it; while at the same time finding a way back to centre, to Self.
